For almost 200 years the name of Ligatne is closely linked with the paper mill. The historical centre of the paper mill’s village has survived to our times and is un urban construction heritage of national importance. On the one hand, Ligatne is connected to the paper producer in Latvia that used to be the only one, on the other hand, to the old valley of Gauja River and Gauja National Park, but in the center of it there is Ligatne historical complex of paper industry with a unique “Historical center of Ligatne Paper Mill village”. The historical development of the village of Ligatne Paper Mill is at least 200 years long.

We booked the husky sledding, with Jans as our guide. He was great took time to point out various points as we drove to our destination in Cesis, we arrived at the destination where we met with the husky team and their beautiful huskies, we had time to meet each huskie and learn and see their personalities. We were given a detailed instruction on how to steer and mush the dogs. It was a fantastic 5-6km run one way and then swapped with my partner for the return. Its safe to say i enjoyed every minute of todays trip and cannot recommend them enough for this experience. Thank you so much for the memories. And of course to Jans for showing us parts of latvia we may of missed had he not shown us!
We throughly enjoyed the Husky Sledding Tour, our guide Jans was amazing, he is very proud and passionate about his country sharing lots of knowledge with us about the history of Latvia and historic monuments, he took us to many different stops along the way and gave us a full authentic Latvian experience. The Husky Tour is a must do, it’s so much fun with amazing scenery, the people that own the dogs are lovely and you can see the dogs are well cared for. Jans gave us some great recommendations of places to eat and drink which we also enjoyed, the tour with Jans was like being with an old friend and he puts so much effort into taking photos/making a video which is sent across after the tour. Thank you Jans!
The highlight of your Riga trip!
Total joy! An amazing day full of endorphins cuddling the beautiful huskies and then getting pulled through the snowy landscape by six very excited and keen huskies.
Jans picked us up from our airbnb in the centre of Riga and drove us deep into the Latvian countryside for about 1h 10min. We could pet the huskies and take photos before the ride. The sledding took about 20-25 min. Afterwards, we enjoyed more time with the huskies, had a cup of hot tea and tried a few local spirits and snacks with Jans and the dog owners.
On the way back to Riga, Jans was also eager to show us some other parts of the Lativan countryside on the way back and we stopped by really lovely giftshops, caves, and other hidden gems. We didn’t quite have time to stop by Sigulda as we were in a rush but he also offered to do that.
Overall, a really fun experience, definitely worth the price and taking out a day from your trip to Riga!
We had a last minute booking for the husky tours and thoroughly enjoyed our time! We had a wonderful driver Oskar who told us all about Latvia on the drive and was infectiously enthusiastic!
The dogs were beautiful and you could tell the owner loved them and knew them all individually.
We also had a number of pictures and a video sent to us afterwards of the experience which was a lovely touch

We did the husky tour with this company, completely faultless as a trip. Communication was great, we were picked up and dropped off by a really cool driver. The tour was incredible, with some traditional Latvian drinks. Would absolutely recommend to those in Riga

The huskey sledding was an amazing experience. Run by a lovely family who were very kind and welcoming. The dogs were extremely friendly and playful.
There was home made mulled wine and biscuits after the session and great video footage was taken for us. Overal was an amazing experience and If anyone is visiting Riga I highly recommend booking with this company!

It was a very nice experience. We first met the guide Oskar, who was really very nice and helpful.
After a one-hour drive from our hotel in Riga to the starting point, we got to know the husky dogs. They were all very friendly and playful.
The Husky sled tour was a really great experience. After the tour there were drinks and snacks and we were then in a winery. There we were allowed to taste different wines and schnapps. We recommend this tour as a must for a visit in Riga 🙂

Jans was our amazing tour guide and looked after us all impeccably. Absolutely fantastic day! Our host Oscar was amazing. Pick up at the hotel and drive out to the husky’s took about one hour. Comfortable car and easy journey. We had lots of time to cuddle the husky’s before the sledding which was so much fun! Hot drinks and a fire helped to keep us warm on a -19 day! On the way back we did a detour to a beautiful village in the valley and visited a winery. Highly recommend this company and this was a real highlight of our trip to Riga.
We went with a group of 9 friends on the husky tour. The tour is really well organised with very nice people. It was an experience to never forget!! I would really recommend!!
What an amazing experience from the start to the end. Our guide, Jans, couldn’t be any better. He does his job by passion and make the entire experience even more exciting. I highly recommend this tour. When I’m back in Riga, will go again.
The dog sledding trip was the highlight of our short holiday in Riga and we were really glad we decided to do it. Jans was a great host – he picked us up from the hotel and took us directly to the location about an hour outside Riga. Once there we met Nickolas and learnt about his dogs and sledding (Nickolas and his dogs race for real in the season all over the Baltic area) and then we were off ‘mushing’ down the track – a unique experience.
Afterwards a hot mulled wine and some Black Balsam soon warmed us up and the we were off with Jans to visit places of interest in the area with a short stop for some lunch before being taken back to our hotel in Riga.
