11.00 AM – 11.30 AM: Hill Of Crosses
Is a historical and architectural monument, a unique ensemble of folk art. Its peace, spirituality, authenticity, and sacred nature attracts visitors. The oblong mound, somewhat similar to a saddle, stands on a plain and is surrounded by the valleys of Kulpė stream and its nameless tributary. The hill itself sits on the Jurgaičiai-Domantai mound with a former ancient village dating back to the 13th-14th centuries. It became a sacred site in the 19th century. It is said that the first crosses were erected here by the next-of-kin of the rebels that fell in the 1831 rebellion. The family members erected the crosses at this site because the Tsarist reign did not allow them to pay proper tribute to the graves of their relatives. Even more crosses were put up after the rebellion of 1863. At that time, the tradition of visiting and erecting crosses on the hill began to emerge.

Tour Reviews
Transfers from Vilnius-Riga and Riga to Talinn
Uldis was very punctual in picking us up from where we stayed and we traveled in a very comfortable minivan. From Vilnius to Riga, we stopped at the Hill of Crosses and Rundale Palace. From Riga to Talinn, we stopped at Sigulda and Parnu. I was expecting a driver to just drive us to our destinations, but I was surprised that Uldis actually speaks very good English and let us know the history of the places we visited. He accompanied us during our stop at Hill of Crosses and Sigulda. He is very friendly and accommodating. At times, Uldis even took care of my son. Riga Tours is most definitely recommended by me. 2 thumbs up.
Vilnius to Riga transfer
Our private transfer from Vilnius to Riga was perfect! Kristofer was a great driver – felt very safe! We visited the Hill of Crosses and Rundale Palace on the way with plenty of time to explore each. A great way to transfer between these beautiful cities.
