Tour To Cēsis
One day tour to the heart of Vidzeme – Cēsis, a beautiful medieval hanseatic town. Before reaching Cesis, a stop at the site of the Latvian settlement on Araisi lake dating back to the 9th century. The tour of Cesis includes a stroll through narrow streets leading to the 13th century Order of Knight’s Castle, the 13th century Church of St. John.

09:00 AM – 10:30 AM: Transportation
Transfer to Sigulda. Depend on traffics its takes around 1,5h.

10:30 AM – 11:30 AM: Archaeological Park Araisi
Now it’s possible to see a reconstruction of the Lake castle from the 9th century in a full scale, open-air exposition of the ideal reconstructions of 3 separate buildings of the Stone and Bronze Ages on the so called Daughter’s Island. Here you can also experience the ruins of the medieval stone castle. The reconstruction of the Lake Castle is the only project of its kind, which has no equal in all of Northern Europe.

11:30AM – 1.30PM: Excursion in Cēsis City
The tour of Cesis includes a stroll through narrow streets leading to the 14th century Order of Knight’s Castle, the 14th century Church of St. John.

1:30 PM – 2:30 PM: Lunch in Cēsis
Lunch time in local restourant.

2:30 PM – 3:00 PM: Zvartas cliff
A magnificent view opens both from the river and from the top of the cliff and there is a convenient staircase in place with which to reach it. There are a lot of legends about this cliff involving stories of how witches and devils could be found in the area, especially during the winter and summer solstices.

3:00 PM – 3:30 PM: Kuku Cliff
Is the highest outcrop of the Devonian period in Latvia at 43 metres in height. The upper part (above the sandstones) is formed from clay layers that contain a lot of fossil remains of long dead organisms. Kuku Cliff changes its appearance rapidly due to river erosion and many landslides. In recent years the shore has lost 10 metres.
